It’s all Greek to you, it’s all Games to us!
A new era begins for the Greek digital games with the dynamic presence of the national delegation organized by EKOME with the participation of the Game Developers Association of Greece in the Nordic Game Conference, the leading games conference in Europe, that took place in Malmö, Sweden, May 17th-20th.
This year’s edition of NG Spring22 was marked by its dynamic return to the historic venue Slagthuset, with the participation of the biggest names in the global industry: game development companies, publishers, professionals, independent producers and of course game lovers (serious & entertainment), whereas Greece boasted a dynamic presence showcasing digital games “made in Greece”.
EKOME and the Game Developers Association of Greece presented at the national pavilion five digital games, while even more Greek productions looked for publishers through the networking events of the conference. EKOME’s initiative to support Greek game developers is part of its strategic target to promote Greek professionals, by supporting their participation in international markets, but, also, by attracting investment in the domestic production of digital games, thanks to the investment incentives cash rebate 40% and tax relief 30%.
The 5 Greek productions showcased in NG were: “Darkverse: Rogue” by Pixel Reign, “The Shore” by Dragonis Games, “BADA Space Station” by Terahard Studios, “Siege the Day” by Hidden Tower Studios and “Skaramazuzu” by IPHIGAMES. Through the accreditations that offered access to the system “Meet2Match” and the “Publisher Market”, Greek professionals had the opportunity for synergies and networking with international companies and professionals, attended the presentations, and the workshops, and took part in the Nordic Game Discovery Contest.
EKOME is one of few national organizations worldwide offering an attractive incentives package for the development of digital games. Commenting on the presence of the national delegation at Nordic Game Conference, President & CEO of EKOME, Panos Kouanis, pointed out: “EKOME aims to attract foreign investment and facilitate business synergies, working at the same time systematically to further strengthen digital game development in Greece, highlighting the Greek talent and expertise internationally. The high level of all the projects submitted for evaluation made it difficult for the committee members to make the final selection, which guaranteed a very successful presence in Sweden”.
The Greek pavilion invited accredited professionals, stakeholders, publishers, and investors in Malmö to explore the talent, the experience, and the expertise of our game developers, as well as the business opportunities that Greece offers for the development of digital games.
