EKOME is excited to launch Round II of EKOME MIL Webinar Series, under the general title «Raising MIL Skills in the Mediterranean: Partnerships & Projects». EKOME MIL Webinar Series are part of EKOME’s action plan on awareness raising and e-learning on Media and Information Literacy in the Mediterranean and beyond, in partnership with UNESCO Media & Information Literacy Alliance, Europe Sub-Chapter Mediterranean Group.

EKOME MIL webinars are moderated by Irene Andriopoulou, Head of Research, Study & Educational Programs EKOME, and co-Secretary General of the International Steering Committee for UNESCO Media & Information Literacy Alliance.

EKOME continues successful MIL Webinar Series with Round II, based on the five Task Forces: a) Promotion, b) Research, c) Synergies, d) Creative Industries, e) MIL in formal education. The MIL Webinar Series-Round I is available here.

The 1st webinar of the new series is dedicated to  EduMediaTest, our joint Interactive Tool for Evaluation of Media Literacy Skills in secondary education school students. EduMediaTest is an open educational tool, developed as part of an EU co-funded Creative Europe / Media Literacy for All project and already available in 10 languages. Our guest speakers discussed the results of the pilot implementation, as well as the challenges of designing and developing an educational tool to meet the needs of school students from the seven EU countries represented in the project consortium. 160 registrants from 23 countries from Europe, Africa, Asia, North & South America watched the webinar, also live on Facebook.

EKOME MIL Webinar Series – Round II: 2nd webinar

Wednesday, April 6th 2022, 16.00-17.00 EET

The 6th webinar from successful EKOME MIL Webinar Series (Round II) was dedicated to the hot topic “Media & Information Literacy & AI in News Literacy”, where selected speakers from the regulatory authorities, Cyprus Radio Television Authority-CRTA (Cyprus) and ARCOM, Directorate for Online Platforms (France) discussed on the current challenges in news content and disinformation. More specifically, they explored how AI engages with News Literacy and presented their regulatory authorities perspective as key stakeholders in the field. 104 registrants from 20 countries (Greece, Cyprus, Lithuania, Bulgaria, Nigeria, Canada, Spain, Philippines, United States, Burundi, Bosnia and Herzegovina, India, Belgium, Germany, Kosovo, Turkey, China, South Africa, Italy, France) took part to the webinar and placed their questions on how MIL is related to freedom of speech and the tension on human rights.

EKOME MIL Webinar Series – Round II: 3rd webinar

The 8th in total, webinar from EKOME MIL Webinars Series took place on Tuesday 21 June 2022 (16.00 EET) under the central theme “Children and Digital Media: Forms & Attitudes”. With this last webinar of Round II “Raising MIL Skills in the Mediterranean: Partnerships & Projects” 2021-2022, EKOME concludes the successful webinars on Media and Information Education, a joint initiative with Europe Sub-Chapter Mediterranean Group of UNESCO MIL Alliance. In this webinar, Sherri Hope Culver, Vice-Chair of the International Steering Committee of the UNESCO MIL Alliance and Associate Professor at Temple University (USA), Betty Tsakarestou, Director of the AD and PRLAB Laboratory at Panteion University (Greece), Ivana Jakobović Alpeza, Head of Sedmi kontinent at Kids Meet Art (Croatia) and Irene Andriopoulou, co-Secretary General of the International Steering Committee of UNESCO MIL Alliance and Head of Education Department of EKOME, reflected on the complex landscape of the digital world of Gen Z, habits and content, key elements for a new “tribe” with common characteristics that can acquire a digital identity with Media and Information Literacy skills. 123 participants from 15 countries from Europe, Africa, Asia, North and South America attended the seminar, asking key questions as a dynamic audience.
